THE PROJECT
Established in 1974 to fulfil a portion of Turkey’s phosphate fertilizer requirement and reduce dependency on imports, Eti Bakır Phosphate Mazıdağ Plants serves a critical role in supplying Turkish agriculture.
The facility is the only one in Turkey and among the few in the world to produce fertilizer and metal at the same location.
Each year, the facility produces 250,000 tons of concentrated phosphate and 650,000 tons of sulphuric acid, which are both raw materials for the fertilizer production facility.
THE SOLUTION
After undertaking an examination of the Concrete Tickner pools (sulphuric acid pools) in the facility, Fosroc found that the existing coating had been severely damaged, and the chemical effects were beginning to attack the concrete. Nitocote EN901 was identified as the most suitable solution for protecting the substrate based on information provided by the client.
Using Renderoc HSXtra repair mortar, damaged areas of concrete were restored after the existing coating was removed and mechanically prepared. The entire surface was primed with Nitoprime 31, a solvent-free epoxy resin primer. This was then followed with the Nitocote EN901 epoxy novolac resin coating, to give the final protective finish.
THE BENEFITS
For areas like fertilizer plants that use aggressive chemicals, Nitocote EN901 epoxy novolac coating system is an ideal solution. The product can resist chemical reactions during the manufacturing process, such as phosphoric and sulfuric acid.
