Fosroc Shortlisted for SCA Members’ Award at CRA Awards 2025

Fosroc is delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for the SCA Members’ Award at the upcoming Concrete Repair Association (CRA) Awards, taking place in Glasgow on 11th December.

Our entry highlights work on the University of Gloucestershire City Campus, a landmark project that transformed the former Art Deco Debenhams building in Gloucester into a vibrant educational hub. This adaptive reuse project preserved the heritage of a building dating back to the Victorian era while delivering modern, sustainable spaces for learning and community engagement.

The Challenge

The refurbishment required urgent structural repairs and passive fire protection to the basement soffit, covering approximately 1,350m². The solution needed to meet strict fire resistance requirements, comply with building safety regulations, and maintain the character of this historic structure—all within a tight programme.

The Fosroc Solution

Working alongside Morgan Sindall and Arup, Fosroc provided a single integrated system for structural reinstatement and fire protection using Renderoc DS, a high-performance dry-spray repair mortar. Renderoc DS offered several advantages:

  • High-build capability for rapid overhead application
  • Low rebound performance, reducing waste and improving efficiency
  • EPD verification, enabling accurate tracking and management of carbon impact

This approach simplified the repair process, reduced programme duration, and delivered a durable, monolithic finish without the need for separate fire protection boards.

Sustainability and Safety

Renderoc DS’s low rebound performance minimised material waste, while Fosroc’s independently verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Carbon Calculator supported transparent carbon reporting. All works were completed under stringent health and safety controls, achieving zero lost-time incidents.

A Collaborative Success

This project exemplifies best practice in heritage refurbishment, combining technical innovation, sustainability, and collaboration. Fosroc is proud to have played a role in preserving an iconic building for future generations.
