THE PROJECT
A residential apartment structure with 2 basements & 16 floors in Bengaluru, had to be strengthened structurally. After constructing 7 floors, certain checks on strengths were found to be lower than the design strength, and hence the RCC columns had a deficiency in the range of 20 to 25 % of what was required. NDT and in-situ tests conducted also confirmed the deficiency. Structural strengthening was essential to be done for 20 columns at different floor levels of the structure.
THE SOLUTION
FOSROC, being pioneers in Concrete Repairs and Structural Strengthening systems, was consulted. After due consideration of the client’s requirements, Fosroc recommended suitable solutions to address the structural requirements, in coordination and approval of the consultant and PMC. Nitowrap CWS600 (600 GSM) and Nitowrap GW 900 (900 GSM) were proposed to be applied, which have a uni directional carbon and glass FRP system for column confinement, that aids in enhanced axial load carrying capacity.
