Development Manager - Concrete

Lead the development of new products (Admixtures & Products related to Concrete) and the provision of high-level technical support and other technical projects and programmes, over a defined technology domain, for Fosroc’s global network of operating companies. Successful performance in the role requires relevant detailed fundamental technical expertise, intimate knowledge of Fosroc products and their application as well the ability to manage large complex projects, leading a small team of technical specialists and interacting effectively with colleagues, suppliers, customers and expert third parties globally. The job holder must be an acknowledged product technical expert across Fosroc in their domain of responsibility which, due to the nature of Fosroc products, will cover a broad range of chemical and material technologies.

Job Description

  • Apply appropriate expertise to enable successful development of new products to meet the aggressive cost and performance requirements of Fosroc customers and markets, both as an individual practitioner and as a team leader
  • Provide high-level technical support to Fosroc opcos in appropriate material, product and application areas, on-site as required, including at customers locations, both as an individual practitioner and as a team leader
  • Practice IPS, Factored Goods new product development processes and TSR at mastery level as a team member and as a project leader
  • Ensure that all products developed and the conduct of practical laboratory and site activities are in full accordance with Fosroc HSE policies
  • Keep track of external new developments in responsible technology areas
  • Contribute as required to the development of the new Fosroc Technical Academy and provide technical training to colleagues from around Fosroc as needed
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of technical practitioners across Fosroc in relevant areas of responsibility and expertise
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key material suppliers, universities, trade associations and other relevant bodies as required to support Fosroc initiatives
  • Benchmark competitive products to ensure Fosroc stays abreast of the evolving marketplace, and identify opportunities to establish differentiation
  • Maintain testing equipment and laboratory areas in excellent working order and identify new equipment and testing that may be required to enable and improve our product developmentand technical supportactivities in area of responsibility
  • Follow good laboratory practice and rigorous adherence to test methods and protocols and ensure the same from all team members
  • Represent Fosroc as required at international technical meetings and conferences
  • Apply sound principles of project management to ensure effective project delivery. As part of this, ensure completion of Project Plans, utilizing Microsoft Project, with regular tracking of milestones to ensure targets are fully met and any adjustments are agreed with stakeholders
  • Use good practice in technical report and document writing, sharing and storage making appropriate use of the IT tools available
  • Follow all protocols and procedures to ensure the generation, fostering and protection of Fosroc Intellectual Property and avoidance of infringement of established IP
  • Ensure optimum deployment of direct reports in achievement of  team objectives

Ensure development of skills and competencies by direct reports ensuring unacceptable performance is managed and corrected and exceptional performance is encouraged and rewarded

Key Skills and Experiences

Formal training in R&D, management and project management – at least 3 years of relevant hands-on experience

An appropriate professional qualification i.e. M.Sc. Chemistry or B.E Civil or equivalent to any of them.

Proven experience as a project leader in delivering successful projects in a developmental environment
A proactive and flexible attitude is required with an ability to work within a high skill, team based environment
An ability to apply effective Project and Time Management Skills, ability to action project plans and organize the work with other team members
An innovative and open-minded approach to problem solving
Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in English
Capability to work with different cultures and to operate in unfamiliar environments
Ability to travel internationally
