Task

  • Fosam, Fosroc's joint venture in Saudia Arabia was commissioned to inspect the condition of the concrete and steel berth structures, originally constructed in 1983

  • Since the port's construction, deterioration set in as a result of galvanic corrosion of steel reinforcement, accelerated by the salty environment, and causing significant revenue losses and decreasing asset value

  • The port was due to be sold to a private buyer and the requirement was to sell with a guaranteed future operating design life

  • Specifically, Fosroc was required to identify the problems and specific causes, determine the degree of deterioration and design a comprehensive solution to repair and ensure performance and durability

Constructive Solution

  • To combat the varying levels of corrosion on different elements of the structure, the following solutions were proposed:

  • All these systems were accepted by the port operator as being ideal for demonstrating to an external buyer the future integrity of this asset

Value to Client

  • Fosroc was able to provide a unique, high technology solution to deliver  the additional durability, enabling active protection for in excess of 25 years

  • There was no lost berthing time during implementation

  • The solution also reduced ongoing maintenance and running costs
