Case Study: Rehabilitation of Asseyedah Fatimah Mosque
Project
Rehabilitation of Asseyedah Fatimah Mosque
Client
Dallah Al-Baraka Group (Iqra’a Division)
Year
January, 2008
Location
Jeddah, Western Province, Saudi Arabia
Task
-
Constructed 20 years ago, the reinforced concrete structure had severely deteriorated
as a result of reinforcing steel corrosion in a highly aggressive environment
-
Independent assessments had been carried out to determine the extent of the corrosion
process, and results showed a high risk of further deterioration that could lead
to the collapse of a very important structure within Saudi Arabia
-
The structure had been rehabilitated on various occasions with traditional methods
- all failing to provide adequate solutions to the corrosion issue
-
Fosroc Saudi Arabia was contracted to understand the problem and provide a comprehensive
corrosion solution guaranteeing performance and durability to the structure
Constructive Solution
-
Fosroc Corrosion Solutions (FCS) technology was endorsed by the client as the right
solution for the corrosion problem
-
The solution was designed to prevent future corrosion potentials and in turn, eliminate
the need for future maintenance
-
A total of 4,800 units of
Fosroc Galvashield CC65 were utilised as corrosion control for embedded steel
reinforcement at non-deteriorated concrete piles but with high potential for corrosion
-
More than 3,000 units of
Fosroc Galvashield XP system were utilised as the corrosion prevention for
all deteriorated areas of the reinforced concrete elements, including beams, slabs
and pile caps
-
A total of 46 tonnes of
Fosroc Renderoc LA, 11 tonnes of
Fosroc Renderoc TG and 5,000 litres of
Fosroc Nitocote EP405 were utilized for complete concrete rehabilitation
works
Value to Client
-
The rehabilitation works were designed to provide corrosion protection for a period
of 15 years, hence reducing the need for frequent maintenance
-
The solution was implemented within a rapid time frame and the Mosque was re-opened
after several months
